Louis Braquet is a native New Orleanian working primarily in acrylic, oil, ink, charcoal, and graphite. The techniques employed in the creation of his work reflect his varied interests in antique and modern figurative painting. He received formal training at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts in his youth and, shortly after graduating from the University of New Orleans in 2010, he began replicating Renaissance and classical era paintings by artists such as DaVinci, Caravaggio, Bosch, and Delacroix in an effort to discover for himself the methods of the great artists of the past.
As an avid reader of fiction, history, esoterica, and psychology of the 20th century and prior, mythological, cultural, and aesthetic themes spanning the classical, art nouveau, and early 20th-century Jazz age frequently provide a subtle narrative basis for his otherwise largely figurative artwork. A devoted reader of Jungian psychology for many years, the female form is most often featured as a representation of the artist's anima as he envisions her throughout history.
